SYDNEY – Jan 9, 2012: The long awaited Scirocco R has taken out its first Australian award being crowned TopGear Australia’s Car of the Year 2011. The Scirocco R’s incredible value for money, sporty design, and firey 2.0-litre engine ensured the car’s top spot amongst a list of high-profile competitors.

The Scirocco R went on sale in December last year and it’s already on top of the wish list of many prospective customers. Its 188kW TSI engine with 330 Nm is able to summon torque at practically any speed range and combined with the sophisticated XDL, the driving behaviour of the agile Scirocco R is sporty and precise. The Scirocco R is a head turner with its typical “R” styling and sexy body design. Enhanced by its narrow, unique radiator grille, larger roof edge spoiler, prominent glossy black diffuser and “Talladega” style alloy 19” R-wheels, the Scirocco R not only plays the part, it looks the part too.

Anke Koeckler, Volkswagen Group Australia’s Managing Director commented. “The Scirocco R arrived with high expectations and we’re delighted that these have been met. The sporty Scirocco R is a dynamic performer and most importantly affordable and fun to drive. We are happy to see that TopGear Australia agrees.”

The Editor of TopGear Australia Magazine, Stephen Corby, had this to say: “We had high expectations for Volkswagen’s Scirocco R. Stupidly unrealistic expectations, frankly…Incredibly, it not only matched all our hopeful hopes and dreams, it exceeded them”.

“What we’ve got here is a very worthy winner of TopGear Australia’s Car of the Year Award for 2011. It’s hot stuff.”
