TULLAMARINE, AUSTRALIA – Dec 21, 2011: Honda has continued its long-standing commitment to sustainability, decreasing carbon dioxide emissions released in the production process of cars, motorcycles and power products.

Honda has been implementing proactive measures to help address environmental issues for over five decades and in 2006, Honda became the world’s first car manufacturer to announce voluntary global targets for the reduction for carbon dioxide emissions.

Honda’s 2011 Annual Environmental Report reveals an improvement in the energy efficiency of its production operations, cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 4 per cent for cars, 5.1 per cent for motorcycles and 9.7 per cent for power products, based on year 2000 figures.

In addition, Honda has decreased the amount of carbon dioxide emissions its products release into the atmosphere, with cars, motorcycles and power products all attaining the set target of 10 percent by 2010, based on figures from the year 2000.

Honda Spokesperson, Mr. Lindsay Smalley, said Honda’s awareness of the environment is evident through its ongoing implementation of environmental initiatives on a global level.

“By improving the energy efficiency of our production operations and consolidating our production sites, Honda has significantly decreased its carbon dioxide emissions. This year, Honda adopted a new Environmental Vision and we continue to work towards achieving that vision to leave skies blue for our children,” Mr. Smalley said.

Honda’s new target is to reduce product-related carbon dioxide emissions by 30 percent for cars, motorcycles and power products by 2020, based on year 2000 figures.

At each stage of a products’ life cycle, Honda aims to minimise the use of fossil fuel and other resources and reduce environmental impacts, including greenhouse gas emissions.

In line with this ongoing commitment to sustainability, Honda was the first company to introduce hybrid motoring in Australia with the launch of the first-generation Insight in 2001.

While the hybrid market is in its infancy in Australia, Honda has identified a strong opportunity for growth with more than 750,000 Honda hybrids sold worldwide.

In Australia, Honda now offers the fun and fuel efficient Insight, the clever Civic Hybrid and all-new sporty hybrid, the CR-Z. The most affordable hybrid on the market, the Insight is now even better value for money from just $29,990 drive-away. The all-new Civic Hybrid will be launched in Australia in March 2012.

Launched recently, the highly-anticipated CR-Z is the world’s first hybrid available in a six-speed manual transmission, putting it in a class of its own. Named Japan’s Car of the Year and Top Gear UK Magazine’s Green Car of the Year when launched, the car signifies the start of a new approach to hybrid vehicles. The sexy CR-Z starts at just $34,990 (Manufacturer’s List Price) and is on sale in 108 showrooms across the country.

Honda is the world’s biggest engine manufacturer, a leader in automotive research and development and consistently rated a top performer in customer satisfaction. There are more than 400,000 Hondas on the road in Australia and millions of happy customers worldwide.
