SYDNEY – Dec 21, 2011: The Opel plant in Rüsselsheim has experienced a record year in 2011, producing 180,900 vehicles. In 2010, 177,500 vehicles rolled off the assembly line at the Opel flagship factory.

In total, 91,400 Insignia left the assembly line. In addition, the plant made 58,600 Insignia Sports Tourers and 18,300 Opel Astras. The Rüsselsheim team is confident about next year, with plenty of forward orders, and launches planned into new territory, including Australia.

The employees of the plant were able to master the 2011 production start of the five-door Astra. Despite running at full capacity of 60 vehicles an hour on one production line, the introduction of the new model went smoothly and to plan.

The director of the plant, Axel Scheiben, is proud of the accolades that the Insignia received in 2011 in terms of quality. The Opel flagship vehicle is exclusively built in Rüsselsheim.

The Insignia finished top out of 570 vehicles tested in the DEKRA faults report 2011. The results of the GTÜ used car report pointed in the same direction. Out of more than five-million technical inspections comprising 240 car models aged between one to three years, the Insignia proved to have the highest quality. “The latest production techniques in addition to the wealth of expertise of our Rüsselsheim team ensure a high level of quality that makes us especially competitive,” says Scheiben.

The launch line-up for Opel in Australia includes Corsa 3 and 5 door variants, the Astra 5 door and Tourer, and Insignia Sedan and Tourer. Further additions to the launch line-up are expected to be confirmed shortly.
