LONDON--December 9, 2011: CTEK, a leading global brand in the care and maintenance of vehicle batteries, has today highlighted the importance of proper Battery Maintenance and care as one in four classic cars will develop battery problems during the winter.

When Spring arrives and motorists look forward to driving their classic cars which have been locked up through the winter months, unfortunately many of them will face disappointment as battery problems mean the car cannot be started.

To avoid this, CTEK has offered some tips to drivers to protect their batteries through the winter months;

  • The top of the battery, the terminal posts and connections should be carefully cleaned with water and baking soda to remove any dirt or moisture. Dirty or moist surfaces increase the level of self discharge.
  • Contact terminals should be clean, dry and lightly greased to protect against corrosion.
  • To avoid a flat battery maintain a constant regular charge. If you have electricity in your garage or storage area you can use a smart battery charger that will maintain charge levels, keep the battery in good condition and ensure that your car is ready to drive when spring arrives.

For unrivalled Battery Protection, all CTEK chargers only react to the direct needs of the battery. As a result, they can be safely left attached for an indefinite period of time (such as during winter) without the risk of over, or under-charging the battery. Furthermore, all chargers are reverse polarity protected and spark-proof to ensure user safety.

Jan-Ulf Soderberg, Head of Brand and Marketing at CTEK, commented: "It can be a massive disappointment when you come to start your car after a few months without use to find that the battery has failed and your car will not start. Not only is this frustrating but can often mean that drivers have to pay out for a new battery. By following the outlined steps, motorists can avoid their Car Batteries failing."

CTEK products for all Battery Charging needs are available through a network of stockists.
