MULGRAVE, AUSTRALIA – Nov 30, 2011: Mercedes-Benz takes home two trophies during this weeks’ 2011 Australia’s Best Car Awards, this comes a week after the Drive Car of the Year Overall Award winner which went to the frugal C 250 CDI.

The Mercedes-Benz C 250 CDI and C 63 AMG Coupe both were awarded Australia’s Best Car for Best Medium Car Over $50,000 and Best Sports Car Over $80,000 respectively.

The President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific, Mr Hans Tempel said. “Last week we won Drive Car of the Year and this week the same cars took out their respective categories. It’s no secret the C 250 CDI and C 63 AMG Coupe are great cars and both are at two different ends of the strong C-Class range.

It’s been an exciting seven days for Mercedes-Benz Australia and it’s an honour to accept these two important trophies with the words Australia’s Best Car,” said Mr Tempel.

The Mercedes-Benz C 250 CDI took out the award for Best Medium Car Over $50,000 from fellow finalists BMW and Volkswagen. The judges were amazed by the interior quality, outstanding fuel efficiency and handling of the C-Class.

“There’s tough and there’s really tough. And when you look through the list of potential winners in this class, you start to wonder how one vehicle could possibly shine among such a range of high quality, value packed offerings. Just about all classes this year were very tightly contested, this one perhaps even more so. So, finding one to stand above the others was going to be difficult. The Mercedes-Benz C250 CDI did just that, and how. Across all scoring options and all manner of driving tests and styles, the combination of C-Class body style and brilliant diesel engine is pretty much irresistible,” said the judges.

The C 63 AMG Coupe was awarded Best Sports Car Over $80,000 against some tough competition.

The judges were clearly blown away by the C 63 AMG Coupe as a package. “It is not just the engine and power transmission which characterise the C 63 AMG Coupe’s dynamic quality. Its true brilliance comes from a cleverly integrated engineering package that makes the whole car feel confidently composed in any situation. The AMG sports suspension and high performance composite braking system are also key to the C63’s brilliant capability,” said the judges.
