FYI: Ford Buyer's Guide

DETROIT--Nov. 21, 2011: "The muscle car could only happen in the U.S. because we're the only ones crazy enough to stuff a V8 into the smallest possible car and scare the hell out of mothers everywhere." That's J Mays, group vice president-Design and chief creative officer at Ford Motor Company, talking about automotive design.  The legendary designer shares thoughts about this (because he's working on the 2014 50th-anniversary Mustang) and other design-related concepts in the latest issue of Automotive Design & Production (AD&P; Auto Field Guide).

Also in the November/December issue:

  • Design and engineering analyses of the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic, Kia Rio, and Hyundai Veloster.
  • A look at how the Mazda SKYACTIV powertrain technology works.
  • A state-of-the industry explanation of powertrain machining approaches.
  • An introduction to Federal-Mogul's corona ignition technology which may replace the spark plug.
  • How agricultural waste and mushroom roots are being used to make petroleum-free, eco-friendly foam.
  • A solvent-free painting approach used by GM.

Michael Vohland, publisher of AD&P, says that in 2012 the publication frequency for the magazine will be nine times, up from 2011's six.  "As the auto industry recovers, we think it is important to provide the kind of design, engineering, manufacturing, and management coverage that only AD&P brings to readers, both in print and on the web.  Not only are we increasing our frequency, but we've redesigned our website to make it easier to find information that auto industry professionals need to have."

AD&P is published by Gardner Publications Inc. The magazine reaches select design, engineering, management, and operations personnel at automotive manufacturers and suppliers. The magazine covers the auto industry from design through production. For subscription requests, contact: Automotive Design & Production Magazine, 6915 Valley Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45244-3029.
