WASHINGTON--Oct. 10, 2011: Dana Holding Corporation is enhancing the efficiency and flexibility of U.S. military vehicles through its advanced driveline and mobility technologies.

All tactical wheeled U.S. military vehicles currently used in warfare operations benefit from Dana's SpicerŪ axle, driveshaft, or Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS) technology. The Oshkosh M-ATV, Textron ASV, and Navistar MaxxPro vehicles, all of which represent new business awards for Dana, will also benefit from the company's durable CTIS and driveshaft systems.

"Dana has a long history developing products used in the military market," said Mark Wallace, Dana's president of On-Highway Driveline Technologies. "Our expertise in energy conveyance and mobility make us the ideal partner for military vehicle OEMs wishing to incorporate cutting-edge technologies and industry-leading support into their vehicles."

Dana will be displaying its axle, driveshaft, and CTIS technologies at the Association of the United States Army's Annual Meeting (AUSA) at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Oct. 10-12. The following Dana products will be featured at booth No. 7837:

  • Spicer Diamond Series Driveshaft -- This industry-first, one-piece aluminum driveshaft utilizes Dana's patented manufacturing process to significantly reduce weight while maintaining the strength of an all-steel system. The result is a very robust and significantly lighter driveshaft for improved fuel efficiency and armor-carrying capacity for enhanced protection.

  • Spicer Central Tire Inflation System -- With the press of a button from inside the cab, Spicer CTIS technology maximizes vehicle mobility by adjusting tire pressure to the optimum footprint on any terrain. This innovative system enables a vehicle to escape threats, bringing soldiers to safety in the most strenuous environments.

  • Spicer Severe Duty Drivetrain -- Designed to excel in severe conditions, this drivetrain combines a redesigned axle with a Spicer Life Series driveshaft to offer increased durability and impact resistance. Suited for Light Combat Tactical Vehicles, such as the MECV, the system uses new differential gear sets and an updated layout to provide increased torque capacity for higher gross weight vehicles. These changes, coupled with improved component materials and temperature control, help the system deliver unmatched durability and reliability.
