Walter P. Chrysler Museum to Host From Chrysler's Vintage Master Tech Files, An Amusing Look Back at Automaker's Long-Running Dealer Training Program

AUBURN HILLS, MI--Sept. 29, 2011: The Walter P. Chrysler Museum, in Auburn Hills, Mich., is digging deep into the archives to host From Chrysler's Vintage Master Tech Files on Wednesday, Oct. 26 from 6 -- 8 p.m. Registration is $13 in advance and $15 at the door with reduced admission of $11 and $13, respectively, for Museum members.

Presented by Steve Shugg, retired Director of Mopar Sales and Field Operations, the program will spotlight the early days of Chrysler's monthly Master Tech course, which has trained dealership technicians on diagnostics and service procedures since 1947. Master Tech itself has evolved as much as automotive technology and Shugg will offer an entertaining look back at program instruction via filmstrips, along with early training films and TV ads. Guests will also be treated to a display of Gold Tool Awards, course booklets and vintage projection equipment.

Amidst From Chrysler's Vintage Master Tech Files' humor will be valuable information for anyone restoring a vintage vehicle.  Attendees will receive comprehensive takeaways of Master Tech courses available online as well as Gold Tool Awards issued over the years.

Master Tech -- accessible today online -- is believed to be the longest running program of its kind in the industry and subjects have changed over the years to reflect innovations in automotive technology. For example, the first Master Tech topic released in late 1947 was titled "How to Check and Adjust Distributor Advance Mechanisms." The ignitions on today's vehicles are controlled electronically and many do not even use distributors.
