SYDNEY – Sept 28, 2011: The Federal Government has recently announced a phased introduction of the Euro 5 Emissions Standard from 2013. The Standard defines the acceptable limits for exhaust emissions of all new vehicles sold in the EU countries. One of the few compact SUVs in the Australian market to already comply is the new Ssangyong Korando SUV launched earlier this year.

Ssangyong’s general manager in Australia, Jeff Barber said that all car manufacturers need to be accountable for emissions.

“The Korando was officially launched earlier this year and we’ve had great feedback from our dealers and customers about its compliance to this emissions standard. Complying to the Euro 5 standard means that Korando is one of the cleanest and greenest vehicles of its type on Australian roads,” said Barber.

The new Korando delivers impressive power, torque, and fuel efficiency due to an all-new, low emission Euro 5, two-litre, turbo charged diesel engine which is matched with the latest technology six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmissions.

“Diesel engines have historically received a bad rap in terms of their emissions, but the new Euro 5 standard and the technology in our engines proves that diesels can in fact be very clean and efficient,” Barber added.

Diesel delivers a number of benefits over petrol engines particularly in SUV configuration. Most significantly a modern diesel engine consumes substantially less fuel than a petrol engine doing the same amount of work. So while the cost of diesel may be slightly more than petrol it can deliver significantly more power and energy per litre.

Ssangyong Korando has a starting price of $27,990 drive away, undercutting its nearest rival by more than $5,500.

Ssangyong has had a presence in the Australian car market for over 10 years. The Korando has an extended warranty of five years or 100,000 km (whichever comes first) and includes roadside assistance.
