Australia's Most Popular Diesel Engine - Now More Powerful

SYDNEY – Sept 13, 2011: Hyundai Motor Company Australia has announced all i30 diesel model variants will be powered by a new and upgraded diesel engine. This new engine upgrade will provide improved torque and offer enhanced ‘green’ credentials.

Australia’s Best Small Car under $35,000+, has set benchmarks for the small car category with its high levels of specification, outstanding value equation and 5-star ANCAP safety rating. Now, the multi-award winning i30 has a more powerful upgraded diesel engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission, replacing the five-speed, whilst the current automatic transmission will remain unchanged.

The i30’s new diesel engine upgrade sees a torque output increase from 255 Nm @ 1900 - 2750 rpm, to 260 Nm @ 1900 - 2750 rpm. The new engine delivers an improved combined fuel economy of 4.5-litres/100km for the manual transmission (an improvement of 0.2 litres/100km) and 5.7-litres/100km for the automatic transmission (an improvement of 0.3 litres/100km).

Eco-credentials of the i30 also benefit from the engine upgrade. The combined CO2 output of 119/124 g/km (hatch/wagon) is down from 125/128 g/km for the previous five-speed manual transmission models, with the automatic delivering a CO2 output of 150/154 g/km over the previous engine’s output of 159/159 g/km.

Showcasing five-star quality from every angle, the i30 range achieves a 5-star ANCAP safety rating ensuring both driver and passengers can travel in total confidence with the assurance of the i30’s suite of standard state-of-the-art safety features including Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Traction Control System (TCS), Anti-skid Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Hyundai Active Locking Operation (HALO), six airbags and 'anti-whiplash' front head restraints.
