Volkswagen Takes Technology Lead With New HD Radio Technology Feature

COLUMBIA, MD--Sept. 8, 2011:

What:

Volkswagen and iBiquity Digital, the developer of HD Radio Technology, announced today that Volkswagen is the first automaker to offer the new HD Radio Technology feature, Artist Experience.  Beginning with the 2012 model year, select Volkswagen vehicles will offer HD Radio Technology with Artist Experience on the Premium VIII radio. Artist Experience enables the Premium VIII radio to display album art and other images broadcast from HD Radio stations on its screen.




19 automotive brands have announced that HD Radio Technology is or will be available as a factory installed feature including Audi, Bentley, BMW, Ford, Hyundai, Jaguar, Kia, Land Rover, Lexus, Lincoln, Mercedes-Benz, MINI USA, Rolls-Royce, Scion, Subaru, Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo.



Why:

Automakers are continuing to embrace HD Radio Technology at a rapid pace, offering consumers a variety of new and exciting stations in crystal-clear digital sound, including on-screen information that displays song titles and artist names. The popular iTunes® Tagging feature is also continuing its rapid adoption with automakers.




Today, there are over 2,000 AM & FM stations broadcasting with HD Radio Technology with more than 1,300 additional digital only FM HD2/HD3/HD4 multicast channels sending new exciting programming.
