Good News for Labor Day Car Buyers: U.S. Dealerships Have Most Crowded Vehicle Lots of the Year

SAN FRANCISCO--Sept. 2, 2011: Chug, the search engine for cars, today released its list of the top 50 vehicles crowding US dealer lots over the upcoming Labor Day weekend -- meaning some potentially great deals for holiday weekend car buyers. According to Chug, which is able to map the entire national vehicle marketplace, auto dealers are entering the Labor Day weekend with the highest inventory supply of the year, and, as dealers look to clear their overcrowded lots for incoming 2012 models, car buyers across the country are well positioned to get some excellent deals.

"If you are currently in the market for a new vehicle, there is no better time to buy than this Labor Day weekend," said Chug CEO Len Short.  "Chug data reveals that the tsunami has had less of an impact on inventory supply than anticipated and this, combined with an economic climate that has tightened consumer wallets, has left many dealerships substantially overstocked. Car buyers will find some of the most popular models such as the Ford F-150 and the Honda Odyssey on the over-supply list, as well as the much buzzed-about Chevrolet Volt."

Chug tracks all cars on dealer websites and records final values at the end of every month. For this study, Chug looked at monthly inventory volume for all makes and models for April 2011-- August 2011. Over- and under-supply was calculated by comparing August levels of inventory to the average of April-- July. A make and model is considered in over-supply if there are 20% more vehicles in August versus average April-July.
