DETROIT--August 21, 2011: Woodward Dream Cruise attendance numbers already appear to be larger than last year's with everyone enjoying the fantastic weather, overwhelming number of eye-catching vehicles and automotive nostalgia.

“We had over 100 cars for the parade. Being part of that and seeing that was really emotional.”

That nostalgia was captured by MI Auto Times in an exclusive interview with Mark Reuss, President, General Motors North America, at the historic Athens Coney Island on Woodward Avenue. The full interview will be posted online at MI Auto Times along with additional coverage of the Woodward Dream Cruise.

Reuss, who has been at the Woodward Dream Cruise all week, stopped by the Metro Detroit Buick GMC Dealers Association booth at Athens Coney Island, and he gave MI Auto Times his impression of this year's Cruise and all of its events, including the Chevrolet parade.

"For the 100th anniversary of Chevrolet, for instance, it's has been an emotional day," Reuss said. "We had over 100 cars for the parade. Being part of that and seeing that was really emotional."

When asked about the newer products people may be interested in seeing at the Woodward Dream Cruise, Reuss mentioned the big Camaro presence at the Chevrolet location on Woodward and also said of the Athens Coney Island location that it's, "really fun to see cars like the Old Grand National and the GNX. Then you see the new GS that we're getting ready to introduce. I had one at home last weekend--a manual transmission version--and I'll tell you, it's a really fun car; one of the finest cars we make. There's a great mix of old and new and that's what it's all about."

MI Auto Times also caught up with many of the people driving classics up and down Woodward Avenue such as:

  • Pat and Jim from Rochester Hills, Mich., driving a 75 Corvette Coupe, who've attended the Cruise from its first year
  • Richard and Richard from Ann Arbor, Mich., who've attended the Cruise since the first one, driving a '57 Ford Thunderbird
  • Randy and Donna from Ortonville, Mich., driving the same 70 Mach Mustang they bought in 1969 when they were first married
