Chevrolet Partners With Mural Arts Program for Bodine High School Service Project

WHAT:
Media are invited to witness one of the final phases of the Mural Arts Program's Restored Spaces Initiative at Bodine High School for International Affairs.

As a lead-up to this year's annual convention of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), which will take place in Philadelphia, members of the Chevrolet team and journalists from Chicago and Atlanta will travel to the convention and engage in community service projects along the way.  

On August 2, the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists (PABJ) will welcome Chevrolet and members of NABJ to partake in a worthy community service initiative with the Mural Arts Program. PABJ members will join NABJ and Chevrolet at Bodine High School, located in the Northern Liberties neighborhood, to participate in the Mural Arts' community build day. The project is part of Mural Arts' Restored Spaces Initiative, a multi-year, multi-site endeavor designed to create several large-scale, multi-dimensional public art projects that will breathe life back into Philadelphia's schools and neighborhoods and spark a shift in the attitudes of city youth.

Spearheaded by Mural Arts' Mural Corps students, Bodine High School is being transformed into a functional work of art that includes mural and mosaic elements, gardens where underused parking lot space previously existed, and a bench and trellis project called chainlinkGreen, which provides outdoor classroom space, shade structure, and a reflective sanctuary for the community. chainlinkGreen is being made from materials found in chain link fencing as well as materials found on-site and donated by local organizations, such as concrete rubble and reclaimed wood. The NABJ members and Chevrolet will work with the Mural Arts team to build the benches for the final phase of chainlinkGreen.
