Carjacker Nabbed in 20 Minutes Thanks to Ituran's Driveit Vehicle Tracking and Recovery Device

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL--July 28, 2011: At exactly 10:35 p.m. Miami Gardens Police Officer, Officer Ruiz, was flagged down by a victim of an armed carjacking. The victim said she was pulled out of her 2010 Toyota Sequoia at gunpoint. With an Ituran Driveit GPS Tracking device in the vehicle she first called Ituran's 24/7 customer service center. During her conversation with an Ituran Representative, she spotted and waved down Miami Gardens Police Officer Ruiz, who quickly took action. With the Ituran agent on the phone, the Officer dispatched a Miami Dade County Police Officer providing him with the exact location of the moving vehicle as provided by the Ituran 24/7 Customer Service Representative.

When the vehicle stopped Ituran sent a message to the stolen Toyota Sequoia to "stop engine". 20 minutes later, the car was located, and the suspect in custody. The $37,000 dollar vehicle was recovered and the Police asked the victim to "start engine" remotely so the vehicle could be returned.
