DETROIT--June 23, 2011: GMC scored within the top 10 industry brands in the 2011 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study(SM), ranking 10th overall. GMC moved up 15 rank positions compared to last year's results. GMC attributes its performance to quality improvements across the portfolio and strong performance by Sierra in the full-size pickup segment.

GMC Yukon/XL placed second in the large crossover/SUV segment, exceeding the segment average score by 7 percent.

"We believe GMC's initial quality performance and Yukon's placement in its segment demonstrate GMC's commitment to deliver high-quality, professional grade vehicles," said John Schwegman, U.S. vice president of GMC Marketing. "We're celebrating these accomplishments on the run as we continue to improve quality across our portfolio and exceed the expectations of our GMC customers."

The 2011 IQS is based on responses from more than 73,000 purchasers and lessees of new 2011 model-year vehicles surveyed after 90 days of ownership. The study includes a 228-question survey designed to provide manufacturers with information they can use to quickly identify problems and drive improvement.

GMC delivered its 20th consecutive month of retail sales gains in May on strong demand for fuel-efficient trucks, crossovers and SUVs. Retail sales are up 5 percent year over year, and total sales are up 8 percent.
