SYDNEY – june 23, 2011: Proton Cars Australia have welcomed the finding from the 2010-2011 NRMA vehicle running costs survey with the popular Persona taking the crown as Australia’s least expensive small car to operate.

The 2010-2011 NRMA survey investigated not only the purchase price of over 1200 new cars but also fuel prices, depreciation, maintenance and insurance based on an annual distance of 15,000 kilometres travelled over a five-year period and Proton came out well on top.

In the small car category Proton dominated with no less than six Proton variants in the top ten, also taking out the top 3 positions Both the Persona and Gen.2 vehicles featured in the small car category top 10.

The Proton S16 G also finished in the top three in the least expensive light car category costing owners a touch over $90 a week to own and run. Proton Cars Australia Managing Director John Statari says the team at Proton are delighted with the results. “Australian families are watching their dollars more closely these days and to know that we are providing motorists with a well-built and well equipped new car option at an affordable price is very pleasing”.

The NRMA found the Persona G 4cyl 1.6L 5 SP manual FWD 4D sedan will use just $32.12 in fuel per week which equates to an operating cost of less than 40c per kilometre. Overall the Persona costs just $113.32 per week to own and run.

Mr Statari says it’s not just the low operating costs that are attracting buyers to Proton Cars, he says its also the peace of mind of a factory backed three year warranty and PROTON Assist, PROTON’s 24 hour emergency roadside assistance. “Proton cars offer Australian motorists all the benefits of a new vehicle without the worry of having to deal with a big price tag”.

The Proton Persona G comes standard with features including SRS dual front airbags, Blaupunkt AM/FM/MP3/CD 4 speaker stereo system, Reverse Parking Sensors, air conditioning, power windows, remote keyless entry and boot release, power exterior mirrors and Lotus tuned ride and handling.
