MARLOW, UNITED kingdom – June 17, 2011: Volvo was honoured with two awards at the British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards 2011, held at the Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre in Thatcham on Wednesday 15th June 2011. Beating strong opposition, Volvo Cars was awarded Thatcham's International Vehicle Security Award while the Volvo C30 won the Best Small Family Car category.

The awards were established in 2004 to recognise those manufacturers who have produced the most secure cars and to raise consumer awareness of the latest innovations in vehicle security. Vehicles must meet select criteria that have been developed jointly by the Automobile Association, Department for Transport, Home Office and Thatcham, and are backed by British motor insurers and other organisations interested in improving vehicle security.

Accepting the award for Best Small Family Car on behalf of Volvo Cars was Martin Bayntun, Media Relations Manager at Volvo Car UK. "It gives me great pleasure to receive this award. It is in recognition of Volvo's continuing commitment to ensuring that not only are our customers safe while being in our vehicles, they are safe in the knowledge that their car is secure when out of sight."

The Volvo C30, along with all of Volvo's models, is equipped with a number of standard security features, such as remote central locking with deadlocks, an anti-theft alarm including immobiliser, a level sensor and the option of fitting laminated side windows for extra security.

To further increase customer's confidence in their vehicle security, Volvo has recently announced the launch of its new mobile application, available on iPhone and Android smart phones. In an evolution of its current system, Volvo On Call, customers of Model Year 12 vehicles equipped with the technology can immediately check the status of the door locks and windows, plus the system will send an automatic alert if the alarm is triggered.
