MEDFORD, MA--June 7, 2011: In time for the summer vacation travel season, a new service from Cross Country Automotive Services (Cross Country) lets stranded motorists know how quickly it will take for the tow truck to arrive.

Cross Country is introducing Roadside Connect, a smartphone and Internet accessible site that delivers up-to-the-minute status updates. Â Cross Country is a leading provider of driver and vehicle assistance services to automobile manufacturers, insurance carriers and motor clubs.

The secure portal enables customers to view:

  • Details of the towing service provider who is en route to the disablement
  • an online map showing the location of the dispatched service provider in relation to the customer's location
  • the estimated time of arrival for the dispatched service provider

"This program represents a major breakthrough for the roadside industry in providing exemplary customer service," said Dave Ferrick, Cross Country's senior vice president and general manager of Insurance Services and Automotive Markets. "To a stranded motorist, there is no more compelling need than to immediately know if the service truck is on the way and how long it will take to arrive at their location. Roadside Connect provides them with the means to track the real-time progress of the response to their call."

Users of Roadside Connect are able to see updated location information as the service-vehicle reaches the disabled vehicle. After the service provider has arrived at the scene, consumers can also view the progress of the tow and confirm that their vehicle has successfully arrived at its destination.

Roadside Connect is part of Cross Country's continuing efforts to integrate technology effectively as a roadside assistance and connected vehicle services provider. Cross Country's Mobile Emergency Management approach offers end-to-end emergency notification through one-stop vehicle accident scene response, remediation and analysis.
