CONCORD, June 2, 2011: Since Carl Edwards began racing in NASCAR he has considered Kansas Speedway his “home track.” He was born and still resides in Columbia, Mo., located 130 miles from the track. To date his only win there has been in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series when he took the checkered flag in 2004. This year Edwards has two chances to win at Kansas in the Sprint Cup Series with the addition of a second race for the 1.5-mile facility.

“A win at Kansas in the Cup series would be huge,” Edwards said. “I’m excited we are running twice there. I think our program is suited very well to those types of tracks and we should be very good there. It gives us twice as many opportunities to get a win. We have been very close there in the past. Still to this day that truck race there was one of the greatest moments of my career. That was a big win.”

Edwards made quite a comeback to win his only race at Kansas Speedway back in 2004. After starting second in the No. 99 Ford F-150, hitting the outside wall on the first lap and falling back to 33rd place, nobody would have ever guessed that Edwards would come back to win the race – but he did. He led the final 22 laps of the race to take the win in front his hometown crowd.

“One of my biggest wins in my career, hands down, was the truck win at Kansas,” Edwards said. “It was a spectacular win and it meant a lot to me.

“I’d like to race at Kansas every week. That’s a lot of fun for me because so many people from Columbia go to that race, and the fans in the Midwest are really hungry for NASCAR racing. I’m really glad Kansas has two races now.”
