BRIGHTON, UNITED KINGDOM – May 24, 2011: Elektromotive is to provide eight of its innovative Elektrobay electric vehicle (EV) charging stations for this month’s GreenFleet Arrive ‘N’ Drive event. In its capacity as official Recharging Technology Partner, Elektromotive will be responsible for keeping more than 20 ground-breaking EVs fully charged between laps of the Rockingham circuit.

The Elektrobays will feature inside the event’s EV Arena, which is expected to be bigger and better than ever before, giving visitors a true insight into EV charging technology and the prospects for electric-powered motoring.

Brighton-based Elektromotive is the world’s leading provider of recharging stations, and is a frequent exhibitor at events that support the move to electric vehicles within the fleet industry. With the onus on businesses to reduce fleet emissions, Elektromotive has created a range of fully functioning recharging products that help companies of all sizes make the transition to EVs.

With over 400 Elektrobay charging stations already installed in the UK for private and public use, and over 1,000 units installed worldwide, Elektromotive is leading the expansion of a complete EV charging infrastructure. Elektromotive consciously strives to provide future-proof charging facilities for all types of fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles and has recently launched two pioneering new products.

The Three-phase Elektrobay has an output of 400 Volts, 32Amps and 21Kwh. This makes it ideal for charging the larger, heavy-duty batteries that are fitted to electric light commercial vehicles.

For the company car driver, often using major road routes, Elektromotive can supply a 50Kw, DC to DC Rapid Charge Elektrobay, which can charge a compatible passenger EV to 80 per cent of its capacity in only 20 minutes. The Rapid Charge Elektrobay has initially been installed in car parks and service stations on main roads around the UK and Ireland, where there is a fundamental need to quickly recharge a vehicle during a lengthy journey.

Elektromotive also has the neatest and most robust EV charger on the market today for the home and office environment. The Home Charger is a low-cost unit that features the new Mode 3 protocols and is compatible with the latest breed of EVs now on the market. This unit can have either a fixed cable and plug supporting J1772 or 62196-2 standards, or a 62196 socket. It is designed to integrate with timed ‘smart’ meters, which some major electricity suppliers plan to introduce.

“Lots of companies are now looking at the viability of running their own EV fleets, and the GreenFleet Arrive ‘N’ Drive event provides us with a valuable opportunity to highlight the recharging infrastructure issues that organisations need to consider,” comments Calvey Taylor-Haw, Managing Director of Elektromotive.

“The new Rapid Charge Elektrobay offers an immediate solution to reducing the ‘range anxiety’ which could prevent some private and fleet buyers from purchasing EVs. Our new home and work place Mode 3 charger has proved an instant success for us. We expect the Three-phase Elektrobay will trigger an increase in demand for electric commercial vehicles, as it can easily be installed in depots for private and public use,” concludes Taylor-Haw.
