Low Speed Electric Vehicles Provide Better Alternative To Cars

GAINESVILLE, FL--May 18, 2011:Karl Benz knew what he was doing when he produced the first gasoline engine.

Cars have revolutionized the way we get from Point A to Point B, but with more than 125 million cars (and counting) on U.S. roads, our cities, climate and environment are getting hit hard because of the modern car. Low-speed electric vehicles are here to change that.

Low speed electric vehicles, like golf carts or utility vehicles, are street legal on roads under 35mph, don't pollute the environment, and are perfect for the short trips to the grocery store or to work. In fact, the average length of a car trip was just more than 10 miles in 2009, according to the most recent National Household Travel Survey, so you can swap out your gas guzzling SUV for something more eco-friendly for most of your trips.

Cost is another big push for low speed electric vehicles. While most low-speed electric vehicles are far less expensive than cars, they aren't considered cheap, with most coming in between $8,000 and $16,000.

"Most cars these days are close to $10,000 or above but of course your using your gas and spending a lot of money to fill up that tank every time," said Justin Jackrel, owner of Road Rat Motors,  in a radio interview for Southeast Green. "For our vehicles, you're going to average between 1 and 2 cents per mile of use."

Compare that to the 45.3 cents per mile for the average full-size car, according to AAA's 2009 Your Driving Costs, and you can start seeing the cost-savings add up. You're also eligible for the 10% tax rebate for buying low speed electric vehicles.

Road Rat Motors is the worldwide leader in affordable karting for racing go karts and street legal golf carts. Formally GatorMoto, Road Rat Motors has been a leader in motor scooters and go kart sales for more than 10 years. It provides affordable options to the racing and carting community, bringing as many new racers to the sport as possible. They also have a full selection of kart parts, apparel and safety equipment for children and adults.
