Pro Karting - Phil Giebler Racing's Wiener 2nd in TaG Master, Grey 2nd in TaG Cadet in SKUSA South at Streets of Willow

ROSAMOND, May 16, 2011: Phil Giebler Racing’s Steve Wiener finished second in TaG Master and teammate Noah Grey was second in TaG Cadet in the main events of the Superkarts! USA Pro Kart Challenge South on the 1.8-mile Streets of Willow course Saturday.

“Steve (Wiener) had one of his best weekends of the year,” team owner Giebler said. “He adapted very well to this high speed track. It was the fastest of the year. There is a lot of strategy with the draft and a lot of compromise with the difference of high speed and low speed corners and tire wear is also an issue. You need good balance.

“Noah worked hard all weekend with (team manager) Everett Giebler to find a good combination of speed and grip.”

Wiener, of Chula Vista, Calif., won a heat race, finished third in the other heat and qualified third fastest.

Grey, of Dana Point, Calif., finished second in the second heat and third in the first heat. Grey had the fastest lap in the second heat, averaging 100.167 mph in his FA Kart-Vortex 60cc machine.

PGR’s Vatche Tatikian, of North Hollywood, Calif., finished third in S3 shifter kart’s main event and 10th overall in a combined class of S4/S4 Mag/S5 with 24 starters. He qualified second in S3 and ninth overall.

“Vatche continues to make great improvements,” Giebler said. “It was his best finish of the year.”

Shawn Cricca, of Simi Valley, Calif., finished fifth in the TaG Senior main. He qualified in fourth position and was third in both heats for PGR.

“Shawn was looking good for a podium finish and came up short, but still showed a lot of speed,” Giebler, of Huntington Beach, Calif., said.

Chris Cricca, of Simi Valley, Calif., qualified in third and was fifth in the first heat. But he was involved in a crash in the second heat and it couldn’t be repaired in time for the main.

Andrew Wiener, of Chula Vista, Calif., was seventh in the first heat, but had DNFs in the second heat and the main.

“Chris and Andrew had some tough luck unfortunately,” Giebler said.

Phil Giebler Racing, owned by the 2007 Indy 500 Rookie of the Year, is based in Orange, Calif., and competes in karting events coast-to-coast in the USA.
