WORCESTER, England--May 16, 2011: npower has confirmed plans to launch Britain's first bespoke Electric Vehicle (EV) tariff.

Rob Harper, group project manager at npower said: "As an energy company, we have a major responsibility to assist the UK Government to meet its climate change targets and sustainability goals. We have already made significant inroads in reducing emissions from our power stations and we are experts in helping our customers reduce their consumption, and therefore bills, through energy efficiency measures. The time has now come to help decarbonise the transport sector.

"We are considering all options for the electric vehicle tariff, but our main aim is to match the usage for charging the vehicle from renewable sources and to make it as affordable as possible. We hope to make the tariff available to consumers during the summer."

npower confirmed the tariff at Grand Designs Live at ExCel in London, where it is showcasing home and public charging points, alongside a Tesla, the world's fastest EV.

According to experts, the British motor industry is on line to receive a 7 billion pounds Sterling boost from electric cars between 2011 and 2014. This takes into account that approximately 300,000 EVs could be on the road by 2014.

npower also revealed that 33% of Brits would consider purchasing an EV in the next five years, which rose to 41% when the benefits of EVs were explained to them.

In addition to the new EV tariff, npower is launching a dedicated EV website, where consumers can follow the developments within the energy sector and catch up on the latest news from npower.
