CONCORD, May 14, 2011: INEX Asphalt Legend Car Series driver Michael Dabney Jr. claimed a second-place finish Friday night at Concord (N.C.) Speedway giving the Crandall, Texas native some much needed confidence heading into June’s Summer Shootout Series at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway.

Dabney Jr., started on the outside of row number one and despite gallant efforts to try and overtake the lead, his No. 5 automobile just didn’t quite have enough to score his first victory of the season.

Still, the performance on Friday night was enough to give the rising star a boost heading into next month’s activities.

“It felt good to race. I just wish we could have done something there at the end,” sounded the humble 23-year old. “Believe me, I tried, but just ran out of time. I’m thankful to be able to race though, so I’m not going to complain. I’m just looking forward to that opportunity of once again getting in victory lane soon.”

With his Concord duties now complete, Dabney Jr. will now shift all of his attention and concentration to one of the hugest events on his radar, the 2011 INEX Summer Shootout. Races that will stretch into seven weeks long, Dabney Jr. is regrouping and preparing his car to make sure he is able to make a statement at the historic quarter-mile track next month.

“To even compete in the Summer Shootout is amazing,” added the Mooresville, North Carolina resident. “Over the next couple weeks, I’m having our motor refreshed, inspecting parts and doing all of the necessary checklists to make sure I’m good to go. The goal is to go out there and have some real good finishes, which hopefully include some wins and put my face out there a little more.”

In-between preparing for the Summer Shootout, Dabney Jr. will have a variety of media appearances and responsibilities to promote next month’s contests and his future racing endeavors.

On the horizon - - the future is looking bright for the rising star. Plans are in the final stages and expected to be announced soon that will see Dabney Jr. compete in a Late Model and / or the PASS South Series later this year with the intentions of a full championship effort in the PASS South Series in 2012.
