IMOLA, Italy, May 5, 2011: David Baldi dominated the opening round of the Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC held this weekend at Imola circuit, Italy. In the morning race, Baldi built up a solid lead only to be reeled in by Manuel Villa towards the end. The close finish was down to Baldi taking his foot off the gas and he crossed the line just nine tenths up on his rival. Stefano Gai was able to finish on the podium. In the afternoon race Baldi sprinted off pole and led to the chequered flag, followed by Pavia driver Lorenzo Casè (who topped the Team category) and Stefano Gai (third across the line, but second in the Trofeo standings). He edged out Venezuelan Gaetano Ardagna (third in the Trofeo). In the morning, Ardagna had clashed with Casè and both were forced to quit the race.
