Daskalos, Musser And Holland Lead Second Friday Pirelli World Challenge Practice At Miller

TOOELE, April 29, 2011: Jason Daskalos, of Albuquerque, N.M., led the Pirelli World Challenge afternoon and combined practice sessions on Friday at Miller Motorsports Park, both overall and in the GT class. Jordon Musser, from Coppell, Texas led the GTS class, while Robb Holland, from Denver, Colo., topped Touring Car in preparation for Saturday’s Pirelli World Challenge Grand Prix of Utah presented by Bondurant.

Daskalos was quickest in the 30-minute session, posting a time of 1:51.957 (98.009 mph) in the No. 7 Dalsin Developments Dodge Viper. A Viper has won the last three Pirelli World Challenge races at the 15-turn, 3.048-mile Miller Motorsports Park, with Daskalos hoping to be in position to make it four in a row.

Randy Pobst, who was quickest in the morning session, was second in the afternoon session in the No. 6 K-Pax Racing Volvo S60. Pobst posted a best time of 1:52.304 (97.706 mph) in the cool afternoon session.

Mike Skeen, driving the No. 2 CRP/Cragar Wheels Chevrolet Corvette, sits third on the combined sheets after posting a time of 1:52.468 (97.563 mph). James Sofronas placed the fourth different manufacturer in the top four positions when he posted a best time of 1:53.144 (96.980 mph) in the No. 14 GMG Porsche 911 GT3.

Musser led GTS for the second straight session in the No. 05 Momentum/Race Fuel Energy Drink Chevrolet Camaro, lowering his time to a 2:01.351 (90.422 mph). Musser is making his first Pirelli World Challenge appearance this weekend.

Eric Foss trailed Musser on the combined charts, posting a best time of 2:02.297 (89.722 mph) in the No. 73 Traxxas/St. Jude Hospital/SPX Ford Mustang FR500S. Foss’s Mustang was originally part of the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge that was headquartered at Miller Motorsports Park.

Defending champion and Miller race winner Peter Cunningham was third in the No. 1 Acura/RealTime Racing Acura TSX, posting a lap of 2:02.368 (89.670 mph) during the second session. Hometown driver Ben Crosland was fourth in the No. 25 Interbank FX/RacewithRP.com Ford Mustang FR500S.

Holland was the quickest Touring Car in the second session with a top lap of 2:07.199 (86.264 mph) in his No. 66 K-Pax Racing Volvo C30. Holland’s time was actually shy of teammate Aaron Povoledo’s morning session, where he turned a fast lap of 2:06.963 (86.425 mph) in the No. 88 K-Pax Racing Volvo C30.

Second in the session and third overall was Lawson Aschenbach in the No. 71 Compass360 Racing Honda Civic Si. The championship leader turned a fast lap of 2:07.215 (86.254 mph) in the afternoon session.

Round Two winner Tristan Herbert was third in the afternoon and fourth overall with a time of 2:07.275 (86.213 mph) in the No. 33 Brimtek Motorsports Volkswagen GTI.

The Pirelli World Challenge returns to the track at 3:35 p.m. (MDT) Friday afternoon for the qualifying, with the Round Four race scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Miller Motorsports Park.
