The Honda Civic model was introduced in July 1972 by Honda first as a two-door economy coupe, followed by a three-door hatchback later that September. The Honda Civic has transverse mounting of its 1169 cc engine and front-wheel drive, the car has always provided outstanding fuel economy along with its adequate interior space despite compact overall dimensions.

Early models of the Civic were typically outfitted with a basic AM radio, a rudimentary heater, foam-cushioned plastic trim, two-speed wipers and painted steel rims with a chromed wheel nut cap.

The current Civic has become much more luxurious with air conditioning, power locks, and power windows, plus options like leather upholstery, satellite-linked navigation, and a six-speed manual transmission.

Initially gaining a reputation for being fuel-efficient, reliable and environmentally friendly, later iterations of the Honda Civic have become well-known for performance and sportiness, especially the Honda Civic Type-R and Honda Civic Si.

Honda's 2011 Civic Coupe, 2011 Civic Si Coupe, 2011 Civic Sedan, 2011 Civic Si Sedan, 2011 Civic Hybrid, 2011 Civic GX and 2011 Civic CR-Z make up 39 different trim levels. The Honda Civic has proven popular since its debut in the previous generations of the car. Increasing interest in fuel efficiency and in hybrids, and the past year's fuel price spike, have only added to that popularity. But Honda has not left the Civic Hybrid alone - like its stablemates, it has some new features and improvements for 2009.
