CIRENCESTER, UNITED KINGDOM – April 20, 2011: Mitsubishi Motors in the UK have confirmed that they have doubled their fund-raising efforts so far to support Japanese Tsunami victims, making a total of nearly £84,000.
Fundraising Events
Mitsubishi Motorsin the UK’s Managing
Director, Lance Bradley posted a YouTube video clip to the Mitsubishi
Motors UK website after the earthquake urging as many people as possible to
donate to either the British Red Cross or Save the Children to help respond
to the humanitarian disaster. The video clip was then promoted through a
combination of social media, email and webpage takeover which has since
been viewed by over 3,600 people.
The funds so far have been made up of contributions directly to the British Red Cross and Save the Children via the web-link and donations from Mitsubishi’s UK dealer network, head office staff and Finance Mitsubishi and have to date reached £83,848.
Lance Bradley said:
“We’ve had a fantastic response from
our staff, franchised dealers, Finance Mitsubishi and suppliers in the UK.
I am amazed at how generous people have been. This will make a real
difference to the hundreds of thousands of people in Japan who’ve
been so badly affected by this disaster. It’s made me very proud to
be part of an organisation where people are so generous and willing to
help.”
The British Red Cross and Save the Children
The Japanese Red
Cross has been working on the ground since the disaster began, mobilising
86 teams, made up of around 600 doctors, nurses and support staff, to
provide first aid and healthcare and assess the damage and needs of the
communities affected.
Up to 100,000 children have been displaced because of the earthquake and tsunami. Save the Children launched a £1 million appeal in March to help families affected by the devastating Japanese earthquake and tsunami and have a team in Japan who are responding to the needs of children.
Mitsubishi Vehicle Production
Both Mitsubishi Motors in the
UK and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) would like to express our
deepest condolences and sympathies to all those who have suffered and are
suffering as a result of this extremely tragic earthquake and its
aftermath. It is our sincere hope all those affected will be able to
recover soon from this difficult situation.
Production Forecast for April: MMC has been producing irregularly with repeated starts and stops of production at its Japanese plants since the occurrence of the disaster. However, with the parts procurement situation expected to improve, MMC has resumed continuous production from April 18. Therefore MMC forecasts a production volume for April 18 to the end of the April to be about 90% of its original planned volume, and forecasts a production volume for the entire month to reach about 60% of its original planned volume.
Post-April Production: While ascertaining the status of parts procurement, MMC will decide on its domestic production plans for the time after a string of national holidays that start at the end of April and take up the first week of May.
Production Outside of Japan: Meanwhile, although some of MMC's models produced abroad are and have been limited by parts procurement, the effect on MMC's production abroad is negligible and MMC forecasts normal and continuous operation for its plants outside of Japan.
