No Reserve Holdens At Shannons Sydney Sale

SYDNEY – April 20, 2011: Five classic Holdens built from the early 1960s to the mid 1970s are going under the hammer without reserve prices at Shannons Sydney Autumn Classic Auction on May 2.

Pride of place amongst them goes to a two-owner 1967 HR Premier Sedan equipped with the optional 186-cid six-cylinder engine and automatic transmission.

Until four years ago, the beautifully presented Savannah Bronze HR was in the hands of its original Bendigo, Victoria owner, who claimed that its rear seat and boot were never used in the 40 years he owned it.

Three years ago the HR underwent some cosmetic refurbishment, with a complete respray, new door-skins and mudguard bottoms in addition to re-finished chromework.

A range of NASCO accessories is fitted to the car, including the bonnet spear, sun visor, weather shield and wheel trims. Shannons are quoting a guiding range of $10,000-$14,000.

Monaro enthusiasts will be interested in the one-owner Claret Metallic 1975 HJ Monaro two-door Coupe that it believed to have covered just 38,800km from new.

Fitted with the 253-cid V8 engine and three-speed automatic gearbox, the Monaro is an inland NSW country car in good, unrestored condition.

While the original paint and interior both show evidence of age, Shannons say this Monaro remains a very solid and original Australian Muscle Car with great potential to refurbish ($16,000-$24,000).

The other Holdens being offered with no reserve on May 2 are a straight and very original 1962 EJ Special automatic sedan with 44,120 miles (believed genuine) on its odometer and featuring a number of desirable NASCO options ($8,000-$12,000); a 1969 LC Torana SL four-door sedan fitted with the optional 161-cid six cylinder engine and three-speed automatic transmission, whose indicated 48,244 miles are believed genuine ($8,000-$12,000); and a 1974 HJ Statesman De Ville Sedan equipped with the 308-cid V8, three-speed automatic transmission and with 93,000km (believed genuine) on its odometer ($6,000-$9,000).

The five Holdens are amongst 12 vehicles, including a Citroen 2CV, three Mercedes-Benz sedans and an MGB GT Coupe, being offered with no reserve at the Shannons May 2 Auction.
