NOTTING HILL, AUSTRALIA – April 5, 2011: The Mazda Motorsport team has assembled in Launceston and preparations are now complete ahead of the start of Targa Tasmania tomorrow.

The much anticipated event will kick off with a prologue stage through the streets of George Town commencing at 12:00pm tomorrow.

Today was the last opportunity for the Mazda Motorsport crew to put the finishing touches on Mazda’s turbo charged trio and the whole team is feeling confident that all cars are ready for tomorrows test.

“We’re really pleased with how all three cars are looking, we’ve had the chance to iron out some issues we identified during testing and what we now have are some pretty competitive race cars” said Mazda Motorsport boss, Allan Horsley.

At a press conference held today at Symmons Plains Raceway, it was obvious that Steve Glenney in his factory backed RX-8 SP is already considered one of the hot contenders in this year’s event.

Sitting amongst an impressive group of rally professionals including Dick Johnson and eight time Targa champion Jim Richards, Steve Glenney took the opportunity to make his race intentions clear.

“The RX-8 is improving every time we run it. We’re inching closer and closer to the competition leaders and I hope we now have a package that will keep us hot on the heels of the event front runners” said Glenney.

After some great preparation at the recent World Rally Championship in Portugal, Brendan Reeves is also looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the Mazda3 MPS.

“Targa Tasmania is an event we’ve been looking forward to all year. We’ve had great preparation and I can’t wait to get out there and bring home a Showroom class win” said Reeves.

Targa Tasmania 2011 represents Mazda Motorsports most aggressive Targa campaign ever but preparations have stayed on track and the team is looking forward to an exciting event.
