SYDNEY – April 1, 2011: Nissan has recorded the automotive industry’s highest market share growth over the past 12 months.

Based on industry retail sales exchange data, Nissan’s retail total of 7,783 units last month meant that it achieved the highest market share gain (0.66 percent) of any of Australia’s 62 car and truck brands. This number represents 18 percent of the total Industry volume growth for the financial year ended March 31.

Nissan also recorded the highest unit volume increase of any manufacturer over the past 12 months representing 18 percent growth for the Japanese brand.

March sales were the best in 20 years and gave Nissan an 8.3 percent monthly market share.

“Nissan finished its financial year with a 6.4 percent market share and we now set our sights on at least a seven percent share for the next 12 month period,” said Dan Thompson, CEO & Managing Director of Nissan Australia.

“Our financial year performance was highlighted by all time record sales of Navara and DUALIS; as well as strong year-over-year growth for Micra and X-TRAIL – underlining the fact that our effort to position Nissan as a brand of choice in both commercial and passenger car markets is paying off,” said Thompson.

“With more product action expected later in the year, we expect to hit our annual targets again ahead of more significant brand milestones in 2012 with the arrival of Nissan LEAF and new Patrol,” he said.
