Marhc 31, 2011: West Atlantic County Youth League will walk onto a completely renovated baseball field during the official unveiling on April 8 thanks to Chevrolet, The Scotts Company, and a local man who entered the league into a national contest. Weymouth Township's municipal field will be formally dedicated during the ceremony after becoming one of five youth baseball fields in the country to be renovated with major league quality materials through the "Building Diamonds and Dreams" contest sponsored by Chevrolet and The Scotts Company. Local resident Michael Goldberg selected the West Atlantic County Youth League to be the recipient of the refurbished field because "It's a nice feeling to help others, especially the children. Weymouth Township is a rural area and this gift means a lot to them." Also, Goldberg won the grand prize of a new Chevrolet vehicle. He chose a Chevrolet Traverse. The field dedication ceremony is open to the public. The refurbishments focused on the aesthetics and playability of the field by providing major league quality materials. The makeover included grading the infield, sod installations including cutouts, batter's box material and warning tracks, the extension of the irrigation system, baseboards added to the fence line, in-field materials added to dugouts, a reconstructed pitcher's mound, yellow fence caps added to the side poles along the backstop and dugouts for safety and uniformity, and much more. Renovations were completed in October 2010 by Ripken Design, the sports design and consulting firm owned by National Baseball Hall of Famer, Cal Ripken, Jr. and 12-year Major League Baseball veteran, Bill Ripken. Products from The Scotts Company were used for the field refurbishment. Scotts is the 'Official Lawn Care Company of Major league Baseball®.' Interviews: Honorable Frank C.
