SYDNEY – March 3, 2011: Hot on the heels of the unveiling of the new Australian-made Series II Cruze, Holden’s popular small sedan continues to impress Australian motorists, recording its highest ever February sales figure.

The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) report Holden sold 2,582 Cruze vehicles in February – an increase of 24.4 per cent on the same month last year, making it the sixth best-selling vehicle in the country.

Holden Executive Director, Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, John Elsworth, said the new locally-made Series II Cruze being built at Holden’s Vehicle Operations (HVO) in Elizabeth, South Australia, would make Cruze even more appealing to Australian car-buyers.

“We revealed the new Australian-made Series II Cruze range at HVO for the first time this week,” Mr Elsworth said.

“The current Cruze range has been a huge success for Holden and the new Series II, featuring an expanded model line-up with new powertrains and great styling, is due in showrooms towards the end of the month.

“With the new 1.4iTi and extremely efficient 2.0 litre turbo diesel engines we expect Cruze to go from strength to strength,” he said.

Meanwhile, Holden’s frontrunner, Commodore, sold 3,829 vehicles in February to be the country’s highest-selling vehicle, accounting for 58 per cent of the large car segment.

The winning combination of Cruze and Commodore contributed to overall Holden sales of 10,314 new vehicles for the month with market share of 12.7 per cent.

“While these vehicles sit at different ends of the market, they possess many of the same qualities, including a winning mix of style and substance, along with excellent value for money,” Mr Elsworth said.

“We are very proud to have both of these models rolling off our South Australian production line and sitting side by side in showrooms in the coming weeks.”
