DALLAS, March 2, 2011 -- Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) and Parents Step Ahead are partnering to beautify three schools located in the Irving Independent School District in Irving, Texas.  The cleanup efforts are part of Nissan's long-term commitment to education and the environment.

Students, parents and volunteers will come together on March 5 to clean up Britain Elementary, Bowie Middle School and Nimitz High School. The day will begin with a rally at Bowie Middle School from 8 to 9 a.m., where volunteers will enjoy food, entertainment and the opportunity to win prizes. Cleanup activities will run from 9 a.m. to noon at each of the three schools.

"Nissan is proud to be a part of this community event," said Dale Walker, director, consumer services and privacy, Nissan Motor Acceptance Corporation. "These schools are located right in our backyard and our employees are eager to volunteer."

Nissan worked with school administrators to determine cleanup projects for each school. At Britain Elementary, the "Parent's Center," which was created to help underserved families, will be decorated with new furnishings. The school grounds at Bowie Middle School will be updated with flowers, plants and trees. At Nimitz High School, volunteers will tackle projects that include the construction of storage boxes and shelving for classrooms.

"We are extremely excited to partner with Nissan on this community event," said Lupita Colmenero, founder and chair of Parents Step Ahead. "There is no better way to make our neighborhood more beautiful than by helping out our schools in need while spending time as a family."

Clean-up activities will take place at the following Irving, Texas, locations:

  • Britain Elementary - 631 Edmondson Drive
  • Bowie Middle School - 600 East 6th Street
  • Nimitz High School - 100 West Oakdale Road
