TAMPA, FL--February 23, 2011: Today the National Coalition for Safer Roads (NCSR) launched a public awareness campaign that seeks to gain support for the positive, lifesaving benefits of intersection safety programs across the state of Florida. The new campaign, known as Stop On Red, includes a compelling new public service announcement, which can be viewed at Stop On Red. Additionally, the campaign's Facebook page will allow fans to share thoughts about the benefits of intersection safety programs, as well as view the latest videos and news from across the state. The Stop On Red monthly newsletter will also provide supporters with regular updates on news, research and community efforts from across the state.

NCSR is the organization that brings together industry leaders and advocates advancing the use of lifesaving road safety cameras in our communities.Additionally, NCSR studies and reports on the impact of road safety cameras within our communities. They work tirelessly to promote best practice standards for the road safety camera industry across the U.S. Be sure to check out NCSR online to find ways to support safety cameras in your local community.

The launch of this campaign comes on the heels of a recent report released by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) confirming the lifesaving benefits of red light cameras in 14 of the largest U.S. cities. Several Florida cities have adopted the use of red light cameras at some of the state's most dangerous intersections, and the results are no less than extraordinary. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2009, 62 Floridians lost their lives, making Florida the third most deadly state in the nation for red light running crashes.
