ZETLAND, AUSTRALIA – February 2, 2011: Craig Lowndes, five times Bathurst 1000 winner, current holder of the fastest time around the Mt Panorama Circuit and genuine Australian motorsport legend, will this weekend seek to add another Bathurst title to his collection when he gets behind the wheel of an Audi R8 LMS in the Armor All Bathurst 12 hour race being held at Mount Panorama on February 6.

Lowndes will be piloting the Audi race experience Team Joest # 7 Audi R8 LMS with fellow Australians: highly experienced long-distance racer Warren Luff and local GT3 Series R8 LMS driver, Mark Eddy. The #7 R8LMS has been especially liveried in green and gold colours for this special event.

“It’ll be a first rate event and I’m really looking forward to it finally getting started.

I know how I have to drive at Bathurst and even though I have never driven a left-hand drive car like the Audi R8 LMS, the team is completely professional and I am sharing the car with two very experienced team-mates. We should have a good chance of a top result.

A twelve hour race on this track is all about good brakes and low fuel consumption. I

think that these two factors will be the key to victory.”

Audi race experience Team Joest, which is an offshoot of the highly successful Audi Le Mans team, is campaigning two Audi R8 LMS cars in the Bathurst 12 hour. The #7 Green and Gold car and the #8 car being driven by regular Team Joest drivers Marc Basseng and Christopher Mies of Germany and Hong Kong-based Briton, Darryl O’Young.

The Armor All Bathurst 12 hour will take place this Sunday, February 6 on the testing 6.213km Mt Panorama Circuit. The race begins at 6.15 am and will conclude at 6.15pm.
