LONDON – January 28, 2011: Mitsubishi Motors Putney celebrated its official EV Sales Centre launch today with the hand-over of Mitsubishi i-MiEVs to its first EV London based customers. A mix of Mitsubishi Motors Head Office and EV Sales Centre personnel gathered in at the dealership with the Mayor of Wandsworth and other representatives from The Office of Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) and the SMMT to mark the occasion.

Lance Bradley, Managing Director of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK said:

“Today sees the fulfilment of our plan to place London at the forefront of our electric vehicle sales operation. Starting with London, our strategy sees every area of the country being covered by Mitsubishi EV Sales Centres including big cities such as Manchester, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Birmingham, Belfast and Milton Keynes.”

We have fully tested the i-MiEV in the UK for three years now and this exciting new development marks a significant milestone in our plans to lead the way in EV provision in the UK. It also provides a focal point for our wider environmental credentials and other innovations under the sub-brand ‘Intelligent Motion’.”

Safe, Specified and Fashionable with Government Support
The Mitsubishi i-MiEV has met a wide range of rigorous safety, emissions and performance standards set by OLEV resulting in its eligibility for the £5,000 consumer incentive Plugged-In Car Grant. The i-MiEV is more than just a zero-emissions car. Where other vehicles blend into the background, Mitsubishi’s first mass-produced electric vehicle oozes confidence and makes strong environmental and fashion statements in one go.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said:

'It is fantastic news that Londoners are now starting to get their hands on an exciting new generation of electric cars such as the i-MiEV. In April I am launching Source London to make electric driving more convenient and to make charge points easier to access.

'An increase in electric vehicles is great news for everyone because they bring a host of environmental benefits including helping to reduce pollution. But they are also offer drivers due significant cost savings on running costs, including a 100 per cent congestion charge discount.'
