TORRANCE, Calif. December 22, 2010; Honda will recall approximately 10,800 late model year 2010 to 2011 Accord and model year 2011 Pilot vehicles in the U.S. to prevent potential front suspension failure.

A potential problem with the machinery used to tighten the spindle nuts on the front axles of both vehicles, as well as the damper attachment bracket bolts for the Pilot, may cause the front suspension of a small number of these vehicles to fail. A flaw in the software for the equipment used for this assembly process was identified at Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, LLC (HMA). This concern is isolated to vehicles produced at HMA.

Owners of identified model year 2010 to 2011 Accord and model year 2011 Pilot vehicles will receive notification to bring their vehicle to a Honda dealer for inspection. After inspection of the Accord, the dealer will replace the spindle nuts; after inspection of the Pilot, the dealer will replace the spindle nuts and if necessary the front damper attachment bracket bolts.

Honda is announcing this recall to encourage all owners of affected vehicles to take their vehicle to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification from Honda that their vehicle requires repair. Notification to customers will start on December 23, 2010.

When Honda identifies concerns of this nature, nothing is more important to the company than fulfilling our obligation and responsibility to alert our customers.

To this end, in addition to contacting customers by mail, after December 23, 2010, owners of these vehicles will be able to determine if their vehicle requires repair by going on-line or calling Honda. Honda owners can go to www.recalls.honda.com or call (800) 999-1009, and select option 4.
