BOTANY, AUSTRALIA – November 26, 2010: The new Polo triumphs again, collecting the ‘2010 Carsguide Car of the Year’, establishing itself as the benchmark in the light car segment.

The latest award for the Polo comes on top of the ‘World Car of the Year 2010’ award received earlier this year, matching the Volkswagen Golf’s achievements last year.

Anke Koeckler, Volkswagen Group Australia’s Managing Director was delighted to hear the news.

“It is a great achievement for the Volkswagen brand to have received this award for the second consecutive year.

“With its combination of technology, great design, safety and economy, the Polo has been a huge success for us and I am pleased to read the Carsguide judges also appreciate our work,” said Ms Koeckler.

Carsguide Managing Editor, Ged Bulmer, said Volkswagen has been on a roll in Australia in the last few years and the latest Polo was another example of the company delivering an extremely well-equipped and well-engineered car at an affordable price.

“Many of the attributes of the popular Volkswagen Golf, last year’s Carsguide Car of the Year winner, have trickled down into the Polo, with the result that it looks like a scaled down version of that winning combination.

“The Polo offers customers a car that’s highly refined and well finished, with terrific safety features and great fuel economy, all at an affordable price point,” Mr Bulmer said.

“In the end the Polo scored a convincing win, not because of its $16,690 starting price but because of its impressive safety, quality, comfort and driving enjoyment. Look no further - the Golf's little brother is the world’s best small car," says Paul Pottinger, one of the Carsguide Car of the Year judges.

The ‘2010 Carsguide Car of the Year’ award draws its judges from News Limited papers and websites with former rally star Ed Ordynski joining the panel this year.
