WEST DRAYTON, UNITED KINGDOM – Sept 10, 2010:

Second time honours for leading manufacturer
For motorists who can't decide on which tyre is the best brand for their cars, tyre tests are a great source of independent information and this year has been an excellent year for Continental. The ContiSportContact 3 has just been named best tyre on test in Auto Express magazine’s annual tyre test. The magazine put 12 brands through their paces on a Skoda Octavia fitted with size 225/40R18 - the first time the publication has tested an 18” tyre.

Auto Express considered nine different performance criteria. On the track, they tested the line–up’s abilities in dry handling, wet handling, wet cornering, aquaplaning, dry braking, wet braking and noise. The overall result also included rolling resistance and price.

The magazine said; “It’s the second win in a row for Continental, this time for the ContiSportContact 3. As with its victory in last year’s test, the German company has designed a tyre that performs well across all our assessments. While others are better in some disciplines, none matches this all-rounder.”

Continental brand manager, Tracey Hyem, said; “This is the third win this year for the ContiSportContact 3 in UK magazine tyre tests. This time the ultra high performance tyre has proved that it is up to the challenge on an 18” front wheel drive car. Again, the testers have commented on the all-round ability of our tyre. Following on from the ContiPremiumContact 2 win with Auto Express last year, it’s an excellent endorsement for our product range.”

In testing an 18” tyre size for the first time, Auto Express recognised a growing market trend. 2009 was the first year that an 18” size had entered the top ten tyre market sizes, reflecting the trend for bigger and wider tyres on today’s cars.

The ContiSportContact 3 comes in a range of sizes from rim size 17" and above. For more information on the Continental product range, visit www.conti-online.co.uk/passenger.
