Peugeot 3008 Redex Tribute

SYDNEY – July 12, 2010: It was 1953 when Peugeot became a household name in this country after a stunning victory in the very first Redex Trial.

Of course Peugeots had been on Australian roads since the early 1900s, but the Redex win really showed what they were really made of.

Not only did Ken Tubman and John Marshall come home ahead of far bigger and more powerful cars, but astoundingly their Peugeot 203 was in near mint condition.

The event was “re-run” in 2003 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first Redex Trial and now in 2010 Peugeot Australia are doing it all again!

This year Peugeot is celebrating its 200th year as an industrial manufacturer. It was 1810 when the brothers Peugeot set up shop in an old grain mill and began manufacturing saws, watch and clock mechanisms as well as other steel-based items. Peugeot built its first automobile in 1889 and today remains the world’s oldest existing motor car brand.

To coincide with the launch of Peugeot’s 3008 in Australia and the marque’s 200 year anniversary, The Peugeot 3008 Redex Tribute will be a highly visible convoy as drivers in two new 3008s make their way around the country.

Receptions and displays have been organised in towns and cities along the way at Peugeot dealerships, and the public will have many opportunities to view these events being held with a respectful nod to Peugeot heritage and acknowledgement of to the Peugeot’s future direction.

The trek will begin from the original location at Driver Avenue, Moore Park. It was here that 50,000 people waved off the original Redex field in 1953, with a further 150,000 lining the Sydney streets to see them head north on their arduous adventure. That first Redex reliability trial was run over 6,500 miles in two weeks, from Sydney north to Townsville, across to Darwin, down to Port Augusta, then back to Sydney via Adelaide and Melbourne.

The Peugeot 3008 Redex Tribute will be run over 8,500km in 15 days, beginning Friday 16th July, heading from Sydney north to Townsville, across to Tennant Creek, down to Alice Springs and further to Adelaide, then back to Sydney via Melbourne to end on Friday 30th July. The last leg of the Peugeot adventure will be captured via live crosses with Mark Beretta and the Sunrise crew of the Seven Network.

Dust and Glory: The Movie
Top Cat Media Pty. Ltd is proud to announce an association with Peugeot Automobiles as they mark the launch of the new 3008 SUV, in conjunction with the announcement of the feature film DUST & GLORY.

The film, an explosive action/romantic-comedy adventure adapted from the Evan Green novel set in the world famous REDeX Reliability Trial of the 1950's, has been on the drawing board since 2006 and is now in advanced stages of development, including discussion with 'A list cast and director' with a view towards a 2011 production date in Australia.
