MLADÁ BOLESLAV, CZECH REPUBLIC – June 28, 2010: Škoda Auto produced its hundred thousandth 1.2 TSI engine only a few months after the launch of its production in the engine and transmission manufacturing plant in Mladá Boleslav. In reaction to a massive demand for this unit that is available in the Fabia, the Roomster, the Octavia and the Yeti plus some other models of the VW Group brands, Škoda has increased its production to 1,250/day. The production of this engine is going to continue even throughout the upcoming company-wide holiday. Besides assembly, Škoda's main plant also performs the engine block casting and machine-works some of the key components.

Škoda Auto achieved record sales of its 1.2 litre petrol engines made in Mladá Boleslav (TSI and three-cylinder HTP) already last year, when it produced 367,880 engines of which 59.5 % were delivered to the other VW Group brands. Furthermore, 55.5 % of altogether 571,054 MQ 200 transmissions produced in the same plant were delivered to the VW Group.

The all-new 1.2 TSI petrol engine is available in two power options (63 kW and 77 kW), has low pollutant emissions and is made of environmentally-friendly materials. The Fabia with the 1.2 TSI 77 kW and optimised seven-speed twin-clutch DSG gearbox offers a combined consumption of only 5.3 litres of petrol/ 100 km and CO2 emissions of just 124 g/km.

“This is another milestone in the 110-year history of engine production in Mladá Boleslav. The massive demand for the 1.2 TSI shows that our engines with optimised consumption are the right direction,” says Škoda Auto BOD Chairman Reinhard Jung.
