VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA – Jun 10, 2010: Time is running out for students in Victoria to enter VACC’s Target 2020 Competition.

The annual ‘Design the car of the future’ competition is open to all secondary and tertiary students in the state. There are cash prizes for the winners and their school, college or university.

Target 2020 calls on students to design the vehicles that we will be driving in ten years time. How will they be powered? What will they look like? What safety features will they have? How small will their carbon footprint be?

“The year 2020 is not far away. Many manufacturers have already designed the vehicles that we will be driving in the next ten years. Therefore, the challenge to students is to create a concept that is both futuristic and realistic,” VACC Senior Manager, David Russell, said.

Details for VACC’s Target 2020 competition are as follows:

Categories: Model Making, Drawing & Design and Essay

Levels of entry: Secondary (open to years 9 to 12) and Tertiary (TAFE or university students)

Prizes: The winners of the Model-Making and the Drawing & Design categories will win $3,000 for themselves, and $3,000 for their school, college or university. Winners of the Essay competition will win $500 for themselves and $500 for their school, college or university.

Deadline: 5pm, Wednesday June 30, 2010

“The deadline is almost upon us. Now is the time for any student with an interest in design to fine tune their model or to add the final flourishes to their drawings and enter this industry recognized competition,” Mr. Russell said.

Target 2020 entry forms can be downloaded from www.target2020.com.au or contact VACC on 9829 1281.
