SYDNEY – April 27, 2010: Following the success of its recent Melbourne auction, where cars offered with no reserve contributed to an impressive clearance rate of more than 87 per cent, Shannons is offering some very special sports sedans with no reserve prices at its upcoming Sydney Autumn Auction on Monday May 3.

Leader of the pack is one of the all time sedan classics: a sublime, silver 1971 Mercedes-Benz 300SEL 6.3 litre saloon – the predecessor to the latest C63, but even more exciting to enthusiasts when it was introduced in 1968.

Shoehorning the 6332cc V8 engine from the 600 series limousine into the compact Mercedes-Benz engine bay delivered startling performance, with the 300SEL 6.3 sprinting from 0-100km/h in less than 8.0 seconds and topping 220km/h.

Delivered new by Sydney’s York Motors to a Marrickville doctor, the car being auctioned retains its original matching engine and chassis numbers and is presented in good original condition.

The current owner used it regularly until 2006, however it has been in storage since and has suffered from a lack of use.

Shannons are expecting it to sell with no reserve in the $12,000 to $18,000 range.

Equally desirable for Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts is the 300 SEL 6.3’s even higher-performance successor – a 1978 Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9 saloon.

The beautiful Milan Brown example in the May 3 auction was the beneficiary of a recent full restoration, with a documented $50,000 spent on its body, interior and mechanical components.

Enhancing its attraction, it is also fitted with the rare optional 15-inch alloy wheels. It is being sold unreserved with a full receipt file and is expected to sell in the $15,000-$20,000 range.

Finally, for BMW enthusiasts and performance bargain hunters, there is a V12-engined 1990 model BMW 750iL.

This Australian-delivered long-wheelbase BMW was purchased by the current owner in 2006 and has travelled just 5,000km in the past three years, during which time it has required very little maintenance.

It comes with the original wallet containing the service and handbooks, recent receipts, a workshop manual published by Robert Bentley and is expected to sell with no reserve in the $3,000-$6,000 range.

Finally for Alfa Romeo enthusiasts, there is a beautiful red 1969 Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV Coupe that has covered less than 100,000 miles since new.

Part of a deceased estate, the Alfa comes with receipts totaling more than $15,000 for work carried out by its current owner and is expected to sell with no reserve in the $8,000 to $12,000 range.

These four potential performance ‘bargains’ are amongst 30 vehicles and 20 items of automobilia in the Shannon auction, which will take place at 65 Reserve Road, St.Leonards from 7.00pm on Monday May 3.

All lots will be available for inspection over the May 1-2 weekend from 9am until 5pm Saturday and 10am until 4pm Sunday.
