Lexus CT 200h compact hybrid in full

Lexus has jumped the gun and revealed pictures of details of the forthcoming CT 200h, its first premium compact model.

A sort of upmarket, sportier Prius, the new car uses a Lexus Hybrid Drive powertrain with 1.8-litre VVT-i petrol engine and a powerful but compact electric motor.

The model will provide a new gateway to the Lexus range and should attract new, younger customers to the brand.

The CT 200h has a full hybrid system with selectable EV mode for emissions-free electric running.

For different driving conditions, further selectable ECO, NORMAL and SPORT driving modes are available.

The gearbox is the Lexus ECVT intelligent electronic continuously variable transmission.

Figures have not been finalised, but the car is expected to deliver class-leading CO2 emissions, with significantly lower NOx emissions than equivalent diesel engines and almost no particulates.

The Lexus CT 200h will debut at the Geneva Motor Show next week, prior to a worldwide sales launch in late 2010.
