AAA Chicago: October Fuel Prices Decline in Illinois But Rise in Indiana

AURORA, Ill.--Over the past month, fuel prices have decreased in Illinois and northern Indiana, giving more relief to consumers. AAA Chicago’s most recent Fuel Gauge Report estimates that in Illinois, regular unleaded gasoline has decreased 8 cents during the past month, forecasting an average cost of $2.51 per gallon for the month of October, which is also $.78 lower per gallon than last year.

“Lessening demand and a positive economic outlook have caused a continued decline in gasoline prices,” says Beth Mosher, AAA Chicago’s spokesperson. “These prices bring continued relief to the consumer at the pump.”

In northern Indiana, gas prices average $2.48, which up just a penny from September 2009 but down $.69 from October 2008.

  • In Cook County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.63, which is down 10 cents from last month and $.96 lower than last year’s price-per-gallon.
  • In DuPage County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.54 per gallon, which is a 9-cent decrease from September and $.92 lower than last year.
  • In Kane County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.53 per gallon, which is 7 cents lower compared to last month and $.87 lower than October 2008’s price.
  • In Lake County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.51 per gallon, which is 6 cents lower than last month and down by $.85 compared to this time last year.
  • In McHenry County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.53 per gallon, which is 7 cents lower than September’s average and $.88 lower than October 2008’s price.
  • In Will County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.52 per gallon, which is 10 cents lower compared to last month and $.95 lower compared to last year.
  • In Champaign County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.45 per gallon, a decrease of 9 cents from September and a decrease of $.58 from last year.
  • In McLean County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.41 per gallon, which is 10 cents lower than last month and $.56 lower than last year.
  • In Peoria County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.41 per gallon, which is a 9-cent decrease compared to last month and a $.50 decrease from October 2008.
  • In Sangamon County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.44 per gallon, which is 8 cents lower than last month and $.63 lower than last year.
  • In Winnebago County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.49 per gallon, a decrease of 13 cents from September and a decrease of $.36 from October 2008.
  • In Allen County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.48 per gallon, which is an increase of 10 cents from last month and $.47 lower than October 2008’s price.
  • In Lake County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.49 per gallon, a 1-cent increase from September’s average and a $.71 decrease from a year ago.
  • In Porter County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.45 per gallon, which is 2 cents higher than last month and $.76 lower than last year.
  • In St. Joseph County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.47 per gallon, which is 2 cents higher compared to last month and $.71 lower compared to last year.
