CYPRESS, Calif., Oct. 1, 2009 -- Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) today announced September 2009 sales of 4,712.

The U.S. Government's CARS program (so-called "Cash For Clunkers") pulled sales forward into July and August, however the third quarter (July through September) was by far MMNA's best of the year, up 18 percent from the first quarter (January-March) and up 29 percent over the second quarter (May-June).

"We expected we would not reach the level of last month's sales. August was our best month in almost a year," said Shinichi Kurihara, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America. "The real measurement of ongoing progress and customer confidence are those three-month sales increases."

"The CARS program dramatically reduced our overall inventories," added Kurihara. "Actually, the sell-down of Outlanders ideally coincides with the upcoming launch of the 2010 Outlander next month.

"It will have class-leading features like Super All Wheel Control, Idle Neutral Logic and improved fuel economy. The 2010 Outlander will be the sportiest handling CUV on the road," he said.

Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc., (MMNA) is responsible for all manufacturing, finance, sales, and marketing operations for Mitsubishi Motors in the United States. MMNA sells coupes, convertibles, sedans, sport utility vehicles, and light trucks through a network of approximately 420 dealers.
