GM and eBay End Online Sales Experiment

PHOTO

29 Sep 2009; Phil LeBeau writing for CNBC reported that less than two months after GM and eBay [EBAY 23.87 -0.05 (-0.21%) ] hooked up to try online sales of new cars in California, CNBC has learned the program will end as scheduled tomorrow.

GM says the trial program has run its course and it will evaluate the results to see what it can learn about selling cars through eBay.

Does this mean the joint venture was a failure? No. It was an intriguing idea that delivered plenty of interest for GM vehicles. But keeping the GM/eBay relationship going in California and perhaps expanding it nationally is not something GM is prepared to do right now.
