This past weekend the Molecule Formula Mazda
Challenge presented a very special double
header that benefited charity, and gave
racers an opportunity to compete unmuffled at
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Fourteen Mazda powered F2000 cars, ten RX8
powered Pro Formula Mazdas, and four RX7
powered Formula Mazdas took to the track
Saturday morning for the first practice. A
cadre of racing superstars took advantage of
the unique race weekend. Participants
included multiple Atlantic Championship race
winner Case Montgomery, 2009 Star Mazda
Masters Champion Michael Guasch, 2009 F2000
National Champion Chris Miller, and 2008
Formula Renault UK Champion Adam
Christodoulou.

really have to thank the people at Club Auto
Sport for giving us the opportunity to be a
part of this," stated Series Official Ben
Hettema. "They were great to work with, and
we look forward to doing this again next
season."
The only cars that were invited for this
special event were the Star Pro Formula Mazda
that is powered by the Renesis engine found
in the new Mazda RX8, the Standard Formula
Mazda that is powered by the Rotary engine
found in the mid 80s Mazda RX7, and the F2000
car which is powered by the 2-liter engine
that was installed in the first generation
Mazda Tribute.
The Molecule Formula Mazda Challenge is a
regional Formula Mazda series that keeps costs in
check by limiting travel to a general region
and racing spec open wheel cars. The series
forges into its fifth consecutive season as
an officially sanctioned NASA race group.

The Molecule Formula Mazda Challenge Series
administrators for the Star Mazda Winter
Series have announced the dates for the third
annual winter championship. The competition
starts with an exclusive race weekend on
November 7th at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma.
From there the series heads to Arizona to
compete in a double header at Phoenix
International Raceway on December 5th-6th.
The finale is a scheduled exclusive double
header in February at Infineon Raceway.
"We are very pleased to be able to provide
the opportunity for drivers and teams to
prepare for the 2010 season with an organized
winter championship," explained series
official Ben Hettema. "Since the opening
races coincide with the finale weekend of our
regular season we already know that we have a
good number of drivers signed up for race
one. This is a great place for drivers and
teams to get started as they gear up for next
season. Many teams including World Speed,
Richie Hearn, Goshen Motorsports, Phenom
Racing Group, and John Walko Racing have
joined our usual west coast based racers in
preparation for their upcoming seasons."
Costs to participate are low:
Series entry fee: $200 if entered before Oct
15th ($300 after)
(If you are entered in the 2009 MFMC Series
this fee is waived)
Infineon track fees $375 for the single race
$600 for the double header
Phoenix SCCA races approx. $400 per double
race weekend
